Roles of domain-general auditory processing in spoken second-language vocabulary attainment in adulthood

Abstract Recently, scholars have begun to explore the hypothesis that individual differences in domain-general auditory perception, which has been identified as an anchor of L1 acquisition, could explain some variance postpubertal L2 learners’ segmental and suprasegmental learning immersive settings. The current study set out examine generalizability topic acquisition higher-level linguistic production skills—that is appropriate use diverse, rich, abstract vocabulary. speech 100 Polish-English bilinguals was elicited using interview task, submitted corpus-/rater-based analyses, linked their ability discriminate sounds based on acoustic dimensions (pitch, duration, amplitude). According results, those who attained more advanced lexical proficiency demonstrated not only relevant experience (extensive immersion earlier age arrival), but also precise perception ability.
